11. Chest (mediastinum) MRI #4, axial plane

The plane of imaging is through the T4 vertebra. The aortic arch is seen coursing from right anterior to left posterior in the mediastinum, and this orientation displays why the image of the arch during an arteriogram is "unfolded" on the left anterior oblique projection.

The superior vena cava has been formed by the confluence of the two brachiocephalic veins.
