The anastomosis of the ileocolic artery, right colic artery, middle colic artery, left colic artery and sigmoidal arteries around the internal margin of the cecum and colon forms a single arterial trunk called the marginal artery (of Drummond) .

This artery begins at the ileocecal junction and ends on the rectum. The marginal artery anastomoses on the right side with the ileal branches of the superior mesenteric artery and on the left side with the superior rectal artery of the inferior mesenteric artery.
