The male urethra has two distinct angles which have clinical importance during urethral catheterization. When inserting the catheter, the angles of the urethra must be considered. Identify the first angle [catheter in the urethra] which occurs at the bulb of the penis. The second angle [indicated by the probe with catheter in the urethra] is present at the proximal end of the free pendulous part of the penis. This angle can be reduced during catheterization by lifting the penis (Figure 44.4).
