Make skin incisions of the female perineum as indicated in the Figure 41.2. Reflect the skin flaps of the urogenital triangle , laterally to study the structures that lie in the superficial perineal pouch.
The superficial perineal pouch is a compartment that exists between the membranous layer of subcutaneous fascia and inferior fascia of the urogenital diaphragm. It contains the root of the clitoris and associated nerves and vessels. This region will be dissected later in this exercise.Examine the subcutaneous tissue of the urogenital triangle. The superficial fascia can be divided into an outer superficial fatty layer, and a deeper membranous layer known as a Colles' fascia. These layers are continuous with the superficial fascia of the thigh, anal region, and anterior abdominal wall.
