On the lateral surface of the cecum, make a longitudinal incision through its wall . On the internal medial wall of the cecum, identify the ileocecal orifice, superior fold of ileocecal valve, and inferior fold of the ileocecal valve. These folds are formed by the protruding ileum. Inferior to the ileocecal valve, identify the orifice of the vermiform appendix (Figure 39.5). Determine the position of the vermiform appendix in the cadaver. In most cases, the vermiform appendix is an intraperitoneal structure, and its distal segment hangs free into the iliac fossa or pelvic cavity.Links and References:
