The skin of the scrotum is thick and firmly adherent to the underlying tissue, which is devoid of fat. Identify the subcutaneous layer, dartos tunic, which contains large amounts of elastic and smooth muscle fibers. Dartos tunic is continuous with the Camper's fascia of the anterior abdominal wall. In response to the cold, the smooth muscles within the dartos tunic contract causing a wrinkling of the scrotal skin.
