Branches from the second part of the maxillary artery primarily supply blood to the various muscles of mastication [a muscular branch held by forceps].

Branches of the third part of the maxillary artery also pass primarily through foraminae and are associated with the pterygopalatine fossa. Identify the posterior superior alveolar artery as it arises from the third part of the maxillary artery (Figure 27.4). Most of the branches of the third part cannot be seen at this time.
