The costal pleura is the portion of the parietal pleura which is adjacent to the inner surface of the ribs, costal cartilage, and intercostal muscles. Reflect the exposed anterior portion the costal pleura and examine the surface of the lungs which are covered by the visceral pleura.The pleural cavity [cross-section] is a narrow space between the parietal pleura and the visceral pleura of the lung. It normally contains only a small amount of pleural fluid.
