Identify the attachments of the gluteus medius muscle . It takes its origin from the external surface of the ilium, as well as from its own deep investing fascia, and inserts into the lateral surface of the greater trochanter of the femur.

Before reflecting the gluteus medius muscle, again identify the superior gluteal artery and vein found at its medial border. They pass in the plane between gluteus medius muscle and gluteus minimus muscle. Their course will be studied after reflection of the gluteus medius muscle.

Cut the gluteus medius muscle near its origin or insertion and reflect the gluteus medius muscle towards its attachments.
