Step 1. Review Muscles of the Shoulder

Review the muscles of the shoulder region that were dissected earlier ( see Laboratory One and Figure 3.3). The trapezius muscle attaches to the acromion and spine of the scapula. Next, observe the latissimus dorsi muscle [lower forceps]. Where upper fibers cross superficial to the inferior angle of the scapula, some of them may attach to it. The rhomboid major muscle [upper forceps] and rhomboid minor muscle attach to the vertebral (medial) border of the scapula. The levator scapulae muscle attaches to the superior aspect of the medial border of the scapula.
